The Spies’ Tunnel Vision  .: Viewed: 1249 times :.
Are we able to defeat the Giants? (Remember Willie Mays?) The Torah tells us that the inhabitants of Eretz Yisrael were y’lide ho’anaq, remnants of a race of Giants. When the M’raglim, the Spies, returned with their report, they announced: “The people that dwell in the land are fierce, and the cities are fortified and very great; moreover, we saw the children of Giants...

There is a strange and perplexing Midrash, "When Iyov (Job) complained about his unbearable suffering, G-d showed him a Suka of 3 walls." What could be the meaning of this perplexing Midrash? A Sukkah by definition is a temporary residence. The Halachic rule is that it must have at least three walls or even two walls and a Tefach (a hands breath) that comprises a third wall. (Shulchan...

 The Suka-Symbol of Life's Shadows  .: Viewed: 1829 times :.
When contemplating the Festival of Sukot, we are confronted with a great paradox. According to Kabala, the Suka symbolizes our life span in this world. For what is a Suka? It is a frail structure in which we need to dwell for 7 days. The Ari reminds us that these 7 days of Sukot represent a person's average lifespan, which is 70 years. This was stated by King David, "The span of his years...

The Temple Mount Controversy  .: Viewed: 2223 times :.
Visiting the Temple Mount is a matter of dispute among the greatest Rabbis. The opinions range from forbidden, because it leads to bloodshed, or forbidden because we are ritually impure, or permitted if you know the Halachic preparations and the restrictive boundaries. There is also a Rabbinic view that it is important to visit in order to retain the Temple Mount for the Jewish People. On...

The Third Temple-Larger Than The Temple Mount?  .: Viewed: 1742 times :.
The Haftora of Parashat Tesaveh deals with the construction of the Third and Final Temple.   A major problem is that Yehezkel's vision of the Third Temple in Ch. 48 describes a sanctuary of enormous dimensions. It will be so huge, that Abarbanel claims it will be even larger than the entire Temple Mount. It will be so big, that the Malbim in Zechariya Ch. 2 claims that Yehezkel's Temple...

The Timely Message of the Korban Pesach  .: Viewed: 1849 times :.
The Torah's dietary laws of Kashrut and those that instruct us to remove all Chametz on Pesach and to eat Matzah, do not include instructions on whether our food is to be cooked or be roasted.    The only remarkable exception to this is the Halacha concerning the Korban Pesach. The Torah commands us to roast a lamb and to eat it on Pesach night. This had to be done in the days...

On Thursday, August 3rd the City of Jerusalem will host a Gay Pride Parade. As a result, some Torah Classes at the OU Israel Center will be cancelled. This is Bitul Torah big time. There is a verse in Devarim 28, “G-d will strike you with madness.” This verse in the Torah is being fully and completely observed by our Politically Correct Leaders. The Municipality of Jerusalem...

 The Torah's 5 Books & the 5 Levels of the Soul  .: Viewed: 1916 times :.
Why does the Torah consist of 5 books? We can infer from the Zohar that the 5 Books of the Torah correspond to the 5 levels of the human soul. These levels of the soul are Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, Chaya and Yechida. In the womb, the Divine soul is called Nefesh, from the root Nofash, resting, because before birth the soul has not yet been activated. At birth the soul is called Ruach which...

The Torah's Definition of Humility  .: Viewed: 1758 times :.
What is the definition of humility? The English Dictionary defines humility as, having a low self esteem of one's own importance. But Rav Yaakov Kaminetzky says to understand the Torah's definition of humility, we have to look at Moshe Rabbenu, who is described in Bamidbar 12, as exceedingly humble, more than any other person. But in Parashat Korach, Moshe's leadership is challenged by his...

The Torah's View on Gay Marriage  .: Viewed: 2340 times :.
With Gay Parades scheduled for this summer in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, this article may not be PC (politically correct). The Meiri, however, on the Mishnah in Avot 5:20 states, "One must always strive to uphold and speak the truth and to dispute anyone who attempts to corrupt it, because the truth fears no one." The Torah (Vayikra 18:22) considers homosexuality a "toevah" (an abomination), a...

The Tower of Babel – Declaring War on G-d  .: Viewed: 1952 times :.
What were the people who build the Tower of Babel trying to achieve? In their own words the people who settled in Shinar (Babylon) sought to make a name for themselves and to avoid dispersion (Bereshit 11:4). Focusing on the proposed height of the Tower, "with its top in the sky", the Midrash Rabba identifies the purpose of the Tower of Babel as being to challenge G-d's sovereignty. The...

The Two Faces of Yaacov  .: Viewed: 1620 times :.
According to the Midrash Bereshit Raba 66, Yaacov’s image is engraved on G-d’s Heavenly Throne. In Yaacov’s dream, angels ascended the ladder to look on Yaacov’s image on the Heavenly Throne, and then descended the ladder to look on Yaacov on Earth. The angels were amazed at how both images were identical. Rav Soloveitchik explains, that when a person sins, his external...

The UN's Role In The Final  .: Viewed: 1672 times :.
The Exodus from Egypt is the prototype of the Final Redemption, which will occur with the coming of Mashiach. It too, like the Exodus, will take place without the benevolent assistance of the nations of the world, even those whom the Jewish People consider our friends and allies. When the great day of the Final Redemption will come, Klal Yisrael will owe thanks to no one, not even to President...

The United Tribes of Israel  .: Viewed: 1891 times :.
At the end of Parshat Mishpatim the Torah states, "The entire nation replied in one voice, we will do all the things that G-d told us." In the very next verse, we find that Moshe built an ALTER and 12 PILLARS, as it says, "Then he built an ALTER next to the mountain and 12 PILLARS for the 12 Tribes of Israel" (Shemot 24:4).   Why did Moshe construct both an ALTER and also 12 PILLARS...
