It is just amazing how the weekly Parshah and Haftorah refer to Current Events. In Parshat Matot Ch. 31, Moshe orders the IDF to mobilize 12,000 soldiers for the war against Midian. The very same week, the IDF mobilized 12,000 reservists for the war against Hamas. Since the ground operation in Gaza, another 50,000 reservists have been called up. Rashi in the weekly Parshah, Bamidbar 31:3, states that all soldiers in the IDF are Tzaddikim.

In the weekly Haftorah, Yirmiyahu Ch. 1, G-d asks the prophet, "What do you see? And I said, 'I see a boiling and bubbling pot.'  On that very Friday night before this Haftorah was read, fifteen Arab terrorists from Silwan (the City of David) broke into the Diaspora Yeshiva's dining room on Mount Zion. The Arabs attacked the Yeshiva students inside the dining room with stones and cinder blocks. The students began to fight back throwing chairs at the Arab terrorists and hurled boiling hot water from the Shabbos urn and even threw the boiling and bubbling chollent pot at the Arab attackers. After the huge boiling pot of chollent was thrown, the Arab mob ran away. What a great miracle took place on the week of this Haftorah!

The Haftorah continues, Yirmiyahu 1:18, "Today I (G-d) have made you a fortified city, and an IRON PILLAR [or DOME]…to stand against the entire land … they will fight you, but they won't be able to defeat you, for I am with you, so says G-d to save you. "

It is no coincidence that the weekly Haftorah always speaks about current events!!
